Mystic Building Deck For First 40-foot Catamaran

With deck tooling for its new C4000 Series 40-foot catamaran recently completed, Mystic Powerboats is planning to build the first deck for the hull No. 1, which will be powered by twin Mercury Racing 700 SCi engines, later this week or early next week. The DeLand, Fla., based company already has completed two hulls for the new model, one of which has been pre-rigged, using a vacuum infusion process with epoxy and carbon fiber. The deck also will be built using the vacuum infusion method.

“We should have the first boat decked in three weeks, and two boats decked in about a month,” said John Cosker, the founder and owner of Mystic. “The first boat with the 700s, our ‘demo boat,’ should be running within two months. After it’s decked, it goes to paint and then we’ll finish rigging it. The next two boats are (Mercury Racing) 1100 engine boats.”

To date, three of the new catamarans have been sold and, according to Mystic dealer Scott Sjogren of Pier 57 Marine, four other potential buyers have expressed “serious” interest.

“I’m getting about one inquiry a week on the 40, and I’m really happy with that,” said Cosker. “People want to be able to see it and touch it, so once we have the first one running that will help with additional sales.”
