Mystic C4400 Catamaran Update: Shooting for 130 on 700s

Rigged with a pair of Mercury Racing 700 SCi engines and ready for paint, Mystic Powerboats’ first C4400 catamaran is scheduled to hit the water in the next two to three weeks after its graphics are complete. Scott Sjogren of Pier 57 Marine, the DeLand, Fla.-based custom catamaran and V-bottom builder’s global dealer, said that the carbon and epoxy–vacuum-infused cat should have a dry weight of approximately 8,500 pounds, and that company principal John Cosker expects the boat to reach 130 mph with its twin 700-hp supercharged engines.

“Our goal is 130 mph with 700s,” said Sjogren. “We are going to test it as soon as the paint is done. The next two boats, which are already sold to clients, will have (Mercury Racing) 1100s.”

Since speedonthewater.com’s last report on the Mystic catamaran project, the company has changed the model designation of the cat from C4000 to C4400. The “4400” designation is a more accurate reflection of the boat’s actual specifications, Sjogren explained.

“During the design and engineering stages, John decided to make a few changes and the boat ended up being more than 43 feet long with an 11-foot beam,” he said. “So we decided to call it the 4400 instead of the 4000.”

As previously reported, the new catamaran will debut alongside Mystic’s new 39-foot luxury performance center console during the 2015 Miami International Boat Show in February. The owners of the new cat and center console also plan to run their boats in the following week’s Florida Powerboat Club Miami Boat Show Poker Run to Islamorada, Fla.
