Given that Mystic Powerboats principal John Cosker and Pier 57 Marine’s Scott Sjogren started discussions on a new center console during the 2013 Miami International Boat Show, it only seems fitting that the new model, dubbed the M3900, will debut at the 2015 Miami event in February. Cosker and Sjogren had discussed unveiling the boat as early as this year, but rather than showcasing a “mocked-up” model they wanted to be sure they could deliver a finished product. Several orders have already been placed for the 39-footer, according to Sjogren, whose dealership—Pier 57 is the exclusive dealer for the new Mystic M3900, as well as a dealer of a pre-owned models from various manufacturers—is located in Gurnee, Ill.

Although the M3900 is the first luxury performance center console Cosker has designed for his own DeLand, Fla.-based company, which made its name on its 50-foot offshore racing and high-performance pleasure catamarans, Cosker has been involved in the design of more than 15 performance-oriented center consoles including models from Concept, Contender, Deep Impact and Midnight Express. A formally trained navel architect, he has more than 25 years of powerboat design experience.

“The first generation of performance boaters have shifted in focus when it comes to demand from boating manufacturers,” Cosker said in a press release from Mystic. “During the last four or five years, new boat construction and general interest trends have followed the economy, and the boating lifestyle has been altered because of it. Now, there is a higher demand for not only sport boats that carry higher cruising speeds, but models that offer safety and luxury, and are family-friendly as well.”

While the M3900 is still in its sea trial and setup stages, Cosker said he’s delighted with the results of the project, which began six months ago, so far.

“The boat runs fantastically,” he said. “It’s reliable and effortless at 70 mph.”
