Mystic Completes Expansive New Headquarters

Founded in 1996 by John Cosker in the backyard barn of the home he owns with his wife, Robin, in Melbourne, Fla., Mystic Powerboats has completed its expansion on six-acres of property in nearby DeLand. The current 60,000-square-foot Mystic plant has grown through the acquisition and refurbishment of adjacent structures, most recently a former steel shop, fueled by demand for its high-performance luxury center consoles and catamarans.

Completing the expansion has given the Mystic team plenty of working space for the five models it currently offers (click image to enlarge).

“The steel shop that occupied that structure for the last 12 years was an absolute mess,” said Cosker. “We spent two months straight pressure-washing, cleaning, painting and reconfiguring office spaces.”

Though Mystic has steadily added production space since its founding, the big push began in 2015 when the company launched its first M4200 center console and C4400 catamaran. Prior to those introductions, the company had just one model—a 50-foot catamaran—in its line. The 42-footer was an instant hit, and in late 2017 Mystic added a 38-foot version. A year later, the company introduced its C3800 catamaran.

“Mystic had outgrown the existing 30,000-square-foot facility in 2018 with the third production model in the C3800 being added so we leased part of a building in our industrial park, but it wasn’t optimal,” said Cosker. “We have nearly doubled our workforce in the last four years and parking was becoming an issue. So we purchased the neighboring building next to our existing building on October 21, 2019 and have been working on it ever since.

“In 2018, we saw a 33-percent increase in deliveries over 2017,” he continued. “In 2019, we saw a 53-percent increase in deliveries over 2018. And for 2020, we are projecting a 20-percent increase in deliveries over 2019. The new facility gives us enough room to expand our model line without interfering with existing model production.”

Among the build-outs for the expanded facility is what Cosker called “a ‘marina with docks’ in the rigging shop with five slips to back boats into, so the all of the rigging crews supplies and equipment are level with the boat decks so the rigging crew can access the boats easily.”

Cosker and company are in the final stages of completing a design center/conference room for customers who visit the Mystic plant to spec their new builds. They’re also adding a dedicated service and warranty department.

“Being a custom builder, the on-site order process is key to customer satisfaction and this new part of the facility will make this process easier and more effective,” he said “The new facility presents a better retail experience for existing and prospective customers with seven customers visiting the new facility in the first month it was open.”
