Mystic Completes First C3801 100-Plus MPH Sport Catamaran

Measuring 38-feet long with a 10’9” beam, the first Mystic Powerboats C3801 catamaran—dubbed the Dirty Duck by Missouri-based owner Slug Hefner—is easily the largest offering in the current crop of outboard-engine-powered sport catamarans. But then, John Cosker, the owner and founder of the DeLand, Fla., high-performance catamaran and center console company, has always thought big and created substantial boats that can handle rough water.

Cosker’s latest offering, which is powered by twin Mercury Racing Verado 400R outboard engines, was based off Mystic’s C4400 catamaran.

Called Dirty Duck, the first Mystic C3801 is going to a buyer who has owned an array of cats from various builders (click image to enlarge).

“We have run the Dirty Duck C3801 in the Atlantic Ocean multiple times in four- to six-foot seas and it handles them wonderfully,” he said. “It runs 100-plus mph, gets on plane easily—especially for a big boat—and stays on plane at less than 20 mph.”

Like Mystic’s C4400 and C5000 cats, the 38-footer can be ordered with multiple cockpit seating configurations including twin bucket seats forward fore and aft. The Dirty Duck, for example has two aft wing seats, a jump seat and anconvertible aft forward-and-rear facing lounge with stowage in its base. The jump seat can be replaced with two more buckets or a Frigid Rigid cooler topped with a cushion.

Standard features include CZone digital switching and two in-deck stowage lockers with removable tubs for access to rigging below. Mystic offers three different stereo packages for the boat. Fuel capacity is 200 gallons.

The C3801 is Hefner’s second Mystic—he also owns an open-cockpit C5000 catamaran called Dirty Duck—in as many years.

“I can’t thank him enough for staying in the Mystic family,” said Cosker. “Slug has owned about every catamaran brand out there and he estimates this is about his twentieth cat, so it’s a real privilege to have him in another Mystic.”

Mystic’s second 38-foot catamaran currently is in production. The Dirty Duck 3801 model will be included in upcoming Speedonthewater.com/Mercury Racing Verado 400R Sport Catamaran Roundup on the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.
