New Cigarette 42X Owner Gets Royal Treatment in Miami

In what Performance Boat Center‘s Brett Manire called “quite possibly the smoothest transaction to date,” Louisiana’s Scott Favre became the proud owner of a new Cigarette Racing Team 42X during last week’s Miami International Boat Show.

Cigarette is wrapping up construction of the first 42X ordered (and already sold) by Performance Boat Center.

The 42-foot V-bottom powered by a pair of 1,100-hp Mercury Racing engines was the first one that Performance Boat Center had ordered from the Opa-locka, Fla., builder since becoming a Cigarette dealer in October (read the story). Manire didn’t seem too disappointed about the situation though.

“I’d have to say that the timing was perfect for this deal,” Manire said. “Scott was interested in a Cigarette and David Wade, who has taken of Scott’s boats for years at his Baton Rouge shop David Wade Marine, suggested that Scott fly to Miami and meet with us. It was great timing because we took him over to the factory to see the boat being built. It had already been painted and the motors were sitting right there, but the interior wasn’t complete and the seats hadn’t been mounted so we were able to position them specifically for him.

“Scott is a real cool guy—I think he’s going to be very happy with his decision,” he added. “Since we had ordered the boat for stock we turned around and gave Skip (Braver, owner of Cigarette) a deposit on another 42X with 1100s.”

Favre, who sold his Fountain Powerboats 38 Lightning with twin 700-hp Mercury engines he had repainted last year, had never been to the Miami show and was blown away by the show as well as the Cigarette factory.

“That was huge for me to go to the factory and be able to put my hands on the boat,” said Favre, whose family owns Performance Contractors Inc., which provides industrial construction and maintenance services in 27 states. “I was impressed with the Cigarette factory—it’s a beautiful facility—and everyone there was so helpful answering all of my questions. I wasn’t planning to get a boat right away, but I saw the boat and since it was the same one I was thinking of ordering I figured I might as well get it this year.

“I thought that painting my Fountain was all I needed to hold me over for a couple of years, but my buddy bought a 42X with twin 1350s in it last year and I was in awe, which is why I started looking into one with 1100s,” Favre added. “I noticed that the ride quality was different in the 42X. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my Fountain but having a little bigger boat, and a much faster boat, was appealing. I toyed around with the idea of a catamaran—I owned an outboard-powered 30-foot Liberator before—but I didn’t want to sacrifice the cabin.”

Favre said he is definitely participating in the Tickfaw 200 Poker Run in Louisiana and the Emerald Coast Poker Run in Florida with his new Cigarette, which also will be on display April 17-19 at Dog Days in Osage Beach, Mo., during the boat show presented by the Lake of the Ozarks Marine Dealers Association. He said he’s thinking about bringing the boat to the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in August and maybe even doing the Florida Powerboat Club’s Key West Poker Run in November.
