New Model Owner Spotlight: Tom Kelly's Hustler 39 Rockit in Miami

Philadelphia performance boater Tom Kelly only owned his 2009 Hustler Powerboats 39 Rockit one year before he was ready to sell it and take the next step—order his “first brand new powerboat.” Little did he know that his new V-bottom would also be the centerpiece of last week’s Miami International Boat Show display for Hustler Powerboats—I can attest, the 39 Rockit was a beauty.

Tom Kelly is the proud new owner of a Hustler Powerboats 39 Rockit powered by twin 700-hp Mercury Racing engines.

To make the debut of Kelly’s blue, white and black 39-footer powered by twin Mercury Racing 700SCi engines even more exciting was the fact that neither Kelly or his wife had seen the boat in person before stepping foot into the Miami Beach Convention Center.

Kelly, who had owned a variety of used boats, including a couple of Bajas, a Skater, a Fountain and a Sonic, said the experience from start to finish with Hustler owner Joe LoGiudice and the Calverton, N.Y., company was exceptional.

“Joe and everyone at Hustler were a pleasure to deal with and so helpful,” said Kelly, who does most of his boating in the Atlantic City area, but is planning to try some Florida poker runs next winter. “The boat is beautiful—I’m pleased with how everything came together. I love the blue and the interior is great. I just can’t wait to get it in the water.

“My last boat had 700s, and I was happy with its performance so I went with the same power,” he added. “I can’t wait until it’s on my lift at the house. I should have it there by May for when the weather gets nice. There are a few things that Hustler is going to finish before we run it—but it’s not like I can use the boat right now anyway.”

Kelly’s boat was part of a display that included a Hustler 388 Reloaded with twin Mercury Racing 565 engines and a 29 Rockit with a Mercury Racing 520 engine as well as a Checkmate 2400D with a Mercury OptiMax 300XS outboard.

All of the boats sat atop the company’s pink carpet in honor of Valentine’s Day and Breast Cancer Awareness. Not only did Hustler hand out pink ribbons and pink roses throughout the weekend, the company announced it would donate a portion of its show sales proceeds to breast cancer research.
