New SOTW Digital Magazine: Women Of Substance Take Over Annual Interview Issue

Despite how well it was executed and received, our inaugural Speed On The Water Interview Issue in 2020 had a substantial flaw. Only one of the 26 folks we included—event organizer Lucy Nicandri of Sarasota, Fla.—is a woman. That the high-performance marine industry is dominated by men is no excuse, because there are plenty of women involved who are making a difference. They’re not hard to find. All you have to do is take a look around. So look we did, which is why this issue is exclusively dedicated to women of substance.

In the latest Speed On The Water digital magazine, which is now available for download, we talk with several women “in the industry” such as Lisa Scola of Mercury Racing, Tanah Kinsey of Wozencraft Insurance Agency and Jackie Jones of the Florida Powerboat Club. Others, such as Lake of the Ozarks-based Nikki Sorenson and Susan Laudwig, have businesses related to the industry. And then there are enthusiasts such as Fort Myers Offshore board members Amanda Gardner and Cyndee Hill who appreciate their time on the water so much that they are compelled to give back.

Highlighting the issue among a few mother-and-daughter pairings, is Andrea Teague and Cherilyn Noack from Teague Custom Marine in Southern California. Minus Andrea and Cherilyn, Teague Custom Marine simply would not be where it is today. And Bob Teague, the founder of the company that bears his surname, would be the first person to express that.

The same can be said for Kim Sweers of FB Marine Group in South Florida and her husband and company founder Randy Sweers. And though Taylor Scism, the daughter of MTI owners Randy and Cherell Scism, is relatively new to the industry, MTI’s client relations manager has already made an impact with the Missouri-based company and its customers around the country. You’ll get to know those women of substance and many others—through their own words—in this issue. We’re hopeful you’ll enjoy the interviews.

There’s also a profile about two well-known powerboat-loving couples who took delivery of new MTI 390X catamarans this spring—Britney and Mark Godsey and Yvette and Burton Kirsten—as well as a guest commentary from Grant Bruggemann’s wife, Kellie Bruggemann, four On Scene features from Florida events, Hot Sheet news and more.
