New Venues, Increased TV Coverage for 2014 P1 Season

Earlier this week the P1 SuperStock series announced it will kick off its largest racing season to date with the first event of the 2014 P1 SuperStock USA Championship set for May 17-18 in Stuart, Fla. Part of the Sailfish Regatta, the season opener is expected to draw as many as 10 SuperStock teams, two of which will head overseas to race in the P1 SuperStock UK Championship two weeks later in Bournemouth, England.

With all of the races in Florida, the six-event USA season will include a stop in Jacksonville (June 7-8) for the first time, along with another high-profile venue that is expected to be announced later this month. After the race in Jacksonville, teams will assemble in Tampa (July 12-13), travel to Cocoa Beach (Aug 23-24) and conclude with the series finale in St. Cloud (Sept. 20-21).

Once again the two-time defending USA champs—New Jersey’s own Andy Biddle and Tracy Blumenstein—will be competing in the U.S. series as well as the one in the UK. Last year the teammates, who own two Professional Boat dealerships together, became the first team to win P1 titles on both sides of the Atlantic—and they’re going to try to do it again this year (read the story).

P1 also announced that all of the racing action will be broadcast in the States in 24 half-hour weekly TV programs from May through October on MAVTV and Fox Sports Florida.

“Media and broadcast relationships play a key role in building our national and international presence and in attracting commercial partners,” explained James Durbin, P1’s chief executive officer. “MAVTV is available on the largest satellite platform in the United States in more than 32 million homes and, with the addition of more than 2,000 broadcast hours through our latest deals, we are confident that the interest and commercial value of the sport is set to increase rapidly.”

With the new season comes new sponsors and the Lycamobile Group is now P1’s official mobile partner. A Lycamobile-branded boat is set to race in both the UK and USA.

“This is a hugely exciting time for P1 as we have evolved into a genuine motorsport and are well on our way to creating a global sports property,” said P1 USA director Azam Rangoonwala. “With new racers, riders and host venues this season in the United States, and the significant growth of our AquaX series, I am confident that we have an outstanding package of sport and entertainment that will deliver significant value for sponsors and real economic impact for the host venues.”
