New York City Poker Run Image Sales To Benefit Wounded Warriors Project

Last weekend, photographer Tim Sharkey shot the New York City Poker Run—revived after a four-year hiatus—on the Hudson River. Among the many images he captured was one of several boats from the run docked at Liberty Landing in Jersey City, N.J., with the Freedom Tower, built where the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centers stood until the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2011, in the background.

“The Freedom Tower was in the background on a bright sunny day, the event hadn’t been run since 2009 and the whole thing said to me, ‘We’re back!'” said Sharkey. “I saw it all as a positive sign not just for the poker run, which had 25 boats, but of all the momentum to come.”

So moved by the experience was Sharkey that he decided to offer limited edition prints and posters of the image with 100 percent of the proceeds from the sales going to the Wounded Warriors Project. (This Saturday, June 22, during the New Jersey Performance Powerboat Club Atlantic City Poker Run members of the club will give powerboat rides to approximately 50 wounded veterans.)
