Nor-Tech’s Inaugural Demo Day A Hit

With the short- and long-term survival of boats shows in question thanks to the dynamics of COVID-19, Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats of Fort Myers, Fla., produced what could well become a major part of its sales future last weekend across the state in Fort Lauderdale. On Saturday, the high-performance center console, catamaran and V-bottom sportboat builder hosted its first factory demo day since the company was founded 30 years ago.

The Nor-Tech crew hosted a successful day of private demo rides last weekend in Fort Lauderdale.

“The overall response to it was phenomenal,” said Geoff Tomlinson, Nor-Tech’s dealer manager, who along with company co-founder Trond Schou, vice-president of manufacturing Henrik Margård, Bob Crow of South Florida No-Tech dealer SoFlo Boats and others provided one-on-one demo rides for prospective Nor-Tech buyers. “We already have a couple of deals written up and couple more in the works.

“The whole Nor-Tech team really put on a show,” he added. “We are already looking at future events like this.”

Crow, one of Nor-Tech longest-standing and most successful dealers, agreed. “It was very productive,” he said. “All of the participants were qualified buyers.”

The Nor-Tech team held the event at the Bahia Mar Marina with three new outboard-engine-powered center consoles: a 340, a 390 and a 450. They stocked the air-conditioned lounge adjacent to their dock with plenty of adult refreshments, including three elegant boutique wines from Peacock Family Vineyard in St. Helena, Calif., and food.

Participants were required to RSVP in advance of the event. Walk-ins were not accepted.

“Having clients RSVP for the event helped ensure they were treated to a great overall experience,” said Tomlinson. “We also made sure to call each client prior to the event.”

In six hours, the Nor-Tech provided more than 15 demo rides. “It wasn’t hectic at all,” said Tomlinson. “It was just steady.”

Asked how the volume of demo-day rides compared demo rides during a full day at the Miami International Boat Show, Tomlinson said it “was about the same, but much more intimate and relaxed.”

“Once we have a few more demo days under our belt, I think we’ll have a much clearer picture of how they compare to boat shows,” he added. “But as I said, the response to our first one was phenomenal.”

Nor-Tech’s demo day hospitality was first rate.
