In an opportunity that Nordic Boats couldn’t pass up, the Lake Havasu City, Ariz., boat builder decided to go big for this week’s SEMA Show in the Las Vegas. Nordic teamed up with Revchem Composites—its resin and gelcoat supplier—for the annual Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Show to display a 28 SS catamaran powered by a single Mercury Racing 1350 engine at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

“We were invited by Revchem—they’ve been coming to SEMA for years and were able to get a spot for us, so we jumped at the chance since you probably can’t get much better exposure for your product than at SEMA,” said Thane Tiemer, Nordic’s general manager. “This is my first year here and man is this something else. It’s incredible and because we are the only boat manufacturer here, we’ve been getting a ton of attention all week.”

Tiemer said Nordic has built a couple of 28 SS models with some big custom power, but that this was its first 28-footer with a Mercury 1350 and M8 drive. He added that he figured the 1350 would have some “wow factor” and be a great way to show off Nordic’s capabilities to a massive at audience at the SEMA Show, which wraps up today.

“We were hoping to run the boat before the show, but we were literally still putting it together on the drive to Vegas,” Tiemer said. “If all goes as planned, we’ll do some testing on the boat early next week.”
