Nordic Readies New 39-Foot V-Bottom, 24-Foot Cat

The crew at Nordic Boats is hard at working putting the finishing touches on a couple of new boats. First in line is the all-new 39-foot V-bottom. According to Kevin Doane, general manager for the Lake Havasu City, Ariz., company, the boat is currently being rigged with staggered Mercury Racing HP700SCi engines paired with No. 6 drives.

“After we built the new 42, we had a lot of people wanting something in the 38- to 40-foot range so we decided to build the 39,” said Thane Tiemer, who has been designing and tooling boats for Nordic for nearly five years. “This boat has staggered 700s. The last V-bottom I designed with 700s was Hallett’s 33, and I went a little more aggressive with this one.”

Tiemer is expecting excellent performance results and is excited to have the expertise of John Lovell, Nordic’s production manager, to help set up and dial in the boat, for which Nordic has yet to determine a base price.

“It just came in to rigging this week,” Doane said. “We’re working on it 24/7 right now to get it ready for Desert Storm and the Havasu Boat Show. We’ve also caught everyone off guard with our new smaller cat that we’re trying to finish in time for the event, too.”

Nordic’s other new model—a sporty 24-foot catamaran—is set to debut next month, too.Doane was referring to the company’s sporty 24-foot catamaran that was just pulled from the mold. The low-profile deck, which features a wraparound windshield, was pulled last week and the hull just came out on Monday.

Tiemer is excited about the cat, which will start at less than $100,000, calling it a “miniature 28SS.”

“There are a lot of people looking to get back into boating, and Nordic wants to give them an option,” he said. “They’re going to want a boat that can run a decent speed at a decent price and have something that is bad-ass looking. That’s this boat.”

The first model will feature the new Mercury Racing 565 engine and a deep red gelcoat with carbon-fiber accents. Along with a four-step bottom and a center pod, the 24-footer has a unique bussel with integrated swim steps on each side of the drive. Nordic even enlisted Aero-Marine to design the wraparound windshield.

Doane said Nordic plans to follow up with small-block power in the catamaran to make it even more affordable without taking the fun out of driving it.
