Nordic’s 26 Deck Boat with Mercury 350 Verado Exceeds Expectations

The crew at Nordic Boats in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. hasn’t been this busy in several years, according to Thane Tiemer, Nordic’s general manager. Between custom orders for deck boats, catamarans and sportboats, as well as stock boats such as the new Mercury 350 Verado-powered 26 Deck Boat, the company’s production has been running full-steam ahead for the past couple of months.

Nordic Boats is proud of its latest 26 Deck Boat, which is powered by a single Mercury 350 Verado engine.

Tiemer, who hinted at a “big project” taking place at the factory, said he ran the unique 26-footer to a top speed of 66 mph last week in ideal conditions. He and Nordic’s John Lovell were impressed overall with the boat, which is priced nearly the same—a little more than $100,000—as the base model with a 430-hp MerCruiser 8.2 Mag HO engine.

“Our whole goal was to break 60 mph and we did that no problem,” Tiemer said. “What is cool about this boat with the Verado is that where the engine would normally be is a huge storage compartment.

“The boat handles very similar to one with an inboard engine, although it’s a little lighter at the transom so it planes quicker,” he continued. “We’re right where want to be price-wise and, although we didn’t record any fuel numbers, it’s probably more fuel efficient than the inboard version. Plus it’s just fun to drive.”

Featuring stunning green, gray and black in-gelcoat graphics, the Verado-powered catamaran is the first non-stern-drive 26 Deck Boat from Nordic, which introduced the model at the end of 2012. Tiemer, who added that the boat is for sale, said the 26-footer is going to be on display at the Los Angeles Boat Show in February along with a half dozen other boats from the company.
