OPA Worlds See Record 75-Boat Turnout

Offshore racing fans of a certain vintage likely remember Cintron, Mystic Powerboats C5000 catamaran hull No. 3 built circa 2008, now running as dfYoung Logistics. Fans who don’t—or those who’d like to see it run again—can catch it in action today in the opening round of Offshore Powerboat Association World Championships in Englewood Beach, Fla., where it will compete against Scuderia Cazzani Racing, Team CRC and Miss GEICO in the Unlimited class.

Those are just four of the 75 teams—a record turnout for the Englewood Beach happening—in town. Organizer Ray LaBadie had expected 65 boats.

Today’s action is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. All five races will be broadcast live on the OPA Facebook page.

With 13 boats registered, Class 6 will have the largest fleet of the weekend, followed by Class 5 with 11 boats. The Pro Stock V and Super Vee Extreme classes have eight boats each, as do Class 4, Class 7 and Class 8.

In the Supercat class, AMH Motorsports will square off against SV Racing and CJ Grant. The Tug It/LSB and Instigator by Knucklehead Racing teams will compete in the Vee Extreme category.
