Outerlimits Boasts Strong Shootout Showing

Given last year’s tragedy at the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, no one in the high-performance powerboat community knew what to expect from Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats. But according to Dan Kleitz, the Bristol, R.I., custom go-fast boat builder’s production manager, everyone involved at the company believed it was important for Outerlimits to have a strong and unified showing at this year’s event in Central Missouri.

“We are keeping Mike’s legacy alive and keeping his company going,” said Kleitz, who piloted his family’s 40-foot Outerlimits and Vinnie Diorio’s 41-footer to victory in their respective classes. “That’s what Mike would do—he would never give up.”

Outerlimits V-bottoms took top honors in five classes this year. In addition, Diorio’s SL 41 and tow rig claimed the “Best-Looking V-Bottom” during Wednesday night’s street party and boat show. For Kleitz, who was joined by his parents Ken and Barbara, it was his first time at the event.

“When we did the poker run/fun run on Friday, there were more Outerlimits there than anything else at the first stop,” Kleitz said. “It was a nice showing. And they actually handed out black ribbon pins to all the participants in the Shootout, and the event T-shirts had ‘In Memory of Mike Fiore’ printed on them. Those were very nice gestures. They showed that the performance-boat community is a tight-knit family.”
