Outerlimits Debuting New SV 43 Raceboat at Key West Worlds

Throttleman Steve Curtis and driver Joe Sgro, who is the principal owner of Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats, will be back in action in the Superboat Extreme V-bottom class during the Super Boat International Offshore World Championships (Nov. 6-13) in Key West, Fla. The dynamic cockpit duo will be piloting a brand-new, recently completed canopied SV 43 V-bottom crafted by the Bristol, R.I., custom high-performance powerboat builder. The three-race Key West Worlds will be the first SBI event of the year for the Outerlimits team.

“The raceboat has been in the works awhile,” said Dan Kleitz of Outerlimits. “We haven’t had a lot of time to work on it this year because we’ve been busy with customer boats, which are more important. But now we’ve had a little time to get it finished and painted and it will be in Key West.”

Kleitz said that the all-carbon-fiber 43-footer, which is powered by twin 750-hp engines from a builder in the Northeast, is the lowest profile and lightest SV 43 raceboat built to date.

“It’s a 100-percent, purpose-built raceboat,” he said. “It’s more cut-down than any SV 43 we’ve ever built. Most of the raceboats we have built over the years were pleasure boats with canopies—they had sound systems, five leather-wrapped seats and headliners. This one is all raceboat.”

While Stephen Miles of Stephen Miles Design in Owensboro, Ky., designed the graphics package, Outerlimits handled the paint work in house in the interest of time.

“It looks incredible—finally we have a raceboat with a really nice paint job,” Kleitz said. “The silver, black and red all tie together nicely.”
