Outerlimits Finishes Teague-Engine-Powered SV 43

Powered by a pair of supercharged electronic fuel-injected 1,200-hp engines from Teague Custom Marine in Valencia, Calif., a new SV 43 V-bottom from Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats in Bristol, R.I., will be heading to owner Bob Nixon next week. Nixon does most of his boating on Lake Mead, according to Mike Fiore, the owner and founder of the custom high-performance V-bottom and catamaran company, who tested the boat on the bay near his factory today.

Nixon’s boat is the second Teague-powered SV 43 that Outerlimits has delivered this year. This first went to Dustin Whipple of Whipple Industries in Fresno, Calif., and its 1,385-hp engines were the product of a collaboration between Teague and Whipple. (Whipple’s boat was the cover story of the March/April issue of Speed On The Water digital magazine—to download that issue click here.)

“We incorporated all the modifications we made on Joe Sgro’s SV 43 that set the kilo record (read the story), which made it the fastest V-bottom in the world, into Bob Nixon’s boat,” said Fiore. “The Nixons are longtime friends of the company. They’ve owned three of our boats.

“We ran it up to 125 mph and stopped there this morning,” he added. “We just wanted to make sure that everything was right before we sent it out next week.”

Unlike most SV 43 models, the newest 43-footer has a three-person rear bench made possible by an extended cockpit. It also has cabin with a pump-out head unit and a water-ski pole.

“They’re pleasure boaters,” said Fiore. “But you’ll see it next year at the Catalina Ski Race.

“We’re on a one-boat-a-week tear around here,” Fiore added, then laughed, in reference to the company’s first 46-foot catamaran delivered a week ago. “We’re busy, but that’s a good thing.”
