Outerlimits Going ‘All New’ in Miami

Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats plans to debut a pair of new Super Leggera stand-up cockpit V-bottoms at the upcoming Miami International Boat Show in February. The Bristol, R.I., V-bottom and catamaran builder is finishing an SL 41 powered by twin Mercury Racing 700 SCi engines, as well as an SL 50 with a pair of Mercury Racing 1350 engines.

Both boats will boast top-shelf graphics packages, according to Outerlimits’ operations manager Dan Kleitz, from different sources. “Stephen Miles is painting the SL 41,” said Kleitz. “Visual Imagination is painting the SL 50.”

The SL 41 actually began its life—at least conceptually—as an SL 40. “It grew,” Kleitz explained, then laughed. “It features a new five-step bottom.”

Owned by longtime Outerlimits customer Buddy Thomas, the second SC 46 catamaran, which is powered by Chief engines of undisclosed horsepower, also will be on display in Miami. It will be the first time Outerlimits has displayed the 46-foot catamaran model in a boat show.

The first SL 41 hull is complete.

“All of the models that will be in Miami are new models for us—none have ever been showcased in Miami before,” said Kleitz. “We may also have another catamaran there, but that’s all I want to say about it now.”

While Outerlimits has yet to formally announce its long term plans in the absence of its founder, the late Mike Fiore, the company remains busy building new and existing models, said Kleitz. “Work at the shop is in full swing—we have a number of boats to build, a lot of service work going on and we’re still continuing to develop our center console and a pleasure version of our upcoming 39-foot cat. We’re staying busy, and we’re staying focused.”
