Outerlimits Planning Seven-Seat Sit-Down 50-Footer

As reported previously on speedonthewater.com, Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats under sole owner Bryan McLaughlin is planning on entering the performance center console and sport catamaran segments. But the Bristol, R.I., custom go-fast powerboat company will remain true to its big V-bottom sportboat roots, and to that end a seven-seat version of the builder’s SV 50—dubbed the SV 507—is in the planning stages.

The 50-footer’s expanded cockpit will boast twin rows of dual bucket seats. A deep, three-person bucket-style bench will be aft of the second row, according to Outerlimits sales manager Dan Kleitz.

“A lot of buyers are moving into center consoles so they can accommodate more people,” Kleitz said. “We want to expand the seating in this model and give everyone a place to sit in comfort and out of the wind. So it’ll be able to handle a bunch of people but with all the comfort great ergonomics of a sit-down boat. We’d also be willing to install three rows of buckets if a customer wanted that.”

Kleitz said he is currently negotiating with a buyer for the first SV 507 model.

“We’re also going to bring back some old-school Outerlimits styling and cap the windshield so from the water the boat will look like it has a canopy,” he said. “That’s a much nicer look than having just a windshield line, and we think it’s worth it if you’re building a truly custom boat.”
