Earlier this morning, Snowy Mountain Brewery, the 30-foot canopied Outerlimits offshore raceboat owned by Michael “Doc” Janssen, set a new SV Single class kilometer top-speed record of 100.840 mph on the Pamlico River in Washington, N.C. As it had for the V-bottom kilo records established by a 43-foot Outerlimits yesterday and today, the American Power Boat Association captured and verified the speed record during a “Special Event” sanction.

Powered by a Mercury Racing HP525EFI engine, the boat was driven and throttled by offshore racer Brian Forehand, the owner of Marker 17 Marine in Wilmington, N.C. The 30-footer’s combined passes of 100.365 mph and 101.311 mph produced the new number.

“Today was a summary of the most advance marine technology in experienced hands,” Janssen said. “The team of boat builders, engine manufacturers and experienced safety personnel was able to organize and execute a kilo run demonstrating 2014 boat design and power technology with speeds that were unheard of many years ago.”
