Outerlimits SL 50 Coming Together, Second 46 Cat in Final Rigging

Despite that there has been no formal announcement about the future plans for Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats, work continues at the Bristol, R.I., custom high-performance V-bottom and catamaran builder. That’s the word from Dan Kleitz, the company’s operations manager.

“We are busy building boats, servicing boats and taking orders for new boats,” said Kleitz. “Everyone is working diligently to move the company forward.”

To that end, Kleitz explained, the company is working on the second lower-profile version of its stand-up cockpit SL 50—the first was released last summer. The new 50-footer will be powered by twin Mercury Racing 1350 engines and should be finished by the end of the year. (Kleitz said he will take the first lower-profile SL 50 on Florida’s Powerboat Club’s upcoming Key West Poker Run.) Other new models—all of which are pre-sold—include a 44-foot center console based on a widened SL 44 hull, a 39-foot catamaran and a new SL 40 V-bottom.

Currently in the final stages of rigging, the second Outerlimits 46 SC catamaran should begin its first water testing in Bristol in two weeks. The 46-footer, which is powered by a pair Chief Engines of undisclosed horsepower, is going to a longtime Outerlimits customer.

Kleitz said he isn’t worried about what lies ahead for the company, despite the death of its founder, Mike Fiore, in late August.

“We know that the ‘powers that be’ are not going to let Outerlimits die,” he said. “We are still working hard for the good of the company. That’s how Mike would have wanted it. The harder we work, the more successful the business is going to be.”
