P1 Announces Expanded TV Coverage

Powerboat P1 announced this week that it is expanding its television coverage for the upcoming Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix Festival in Sarasota, Fla. The festival, which is scheduled for June 30-July 3, features the two main P1 classes—SuperStock USA and AquaX—racing on Saturday and Sunday, as well as several offshore racing classes battling it out on Sunday in the invitational event.

Even more people will get to watch the P1 SuperStock USA boats do battle in Sarasota thanks to expanded television coverage.

The organization was excited to report that televised coverage of all of the powerboat classes will be aired on FOX Sports regional networks and NBC’s SportsNet network in the Bay Area, Chicago and Mid-Atlantic. The one-hour broadcast will air approximately 10 days after the Sarasota race with an expected reach of 60 million households and 100 countries throughout Europe, Asia and Africa. The show is likely to re-air at least three times.

Earlier this month, the Orlando, Fla.-based producer of the SuperStock USA series of single-engine V-bottom powerboat races and AquaX personal watercraft races announced it was extending its broadcast deal with FOX Sports Sun for another two years (read the story).

And in related news, P1 AquaX and Comcast SportsNet Chicago announced at the official P1 Chicago launch a deal that will see the entire 2016 AquaX USA championship series shown on the regional network beginning on Sunday, June 12 at 4:30 p.m. CT.

This deal comes as P1 AquaX heads to Chicago for the first time in September for the IJSBA National Championships, adding to its already extensive race calendar in Florida and its inaugural visit to Whiting, Ind. In addition to CSN Chicago, P1 AquaX also has secured clearance to air the series on CSN California and CSN Mid-Atlantic.

“The USA regional sports networks are a key partner for P1 in growing our sporting brands and increasing the value to our racers, sponsors and venues,” said James Durbin, CEO of Powerboat P1. “Like the RSNs, P1 races are held on a national platform but have a local focus when it comes to events, so NBC Sports Group’s CSN Chicago was a key target considering both its reputation for outstanding programming and as a partner for our inaugural Chicago event in September.”

The deal extends P1’s extensive domestic footprint with FOX Sports regional networks and will now reach an additional 13.4 million homes in Chicago, Mid-Atlantic and Bay Area.
