Performance Boat Club of Canada Raises $20,000 For Cancer Charity

In its third charity poker run of the season last Saturday, the Performance Boat Club of Canada raised $20,000 for a local cancer awareness organization. Called the Ride for Dad in the Fight Against Prostate Cancer Charity Poker Run, the event on Lake Simcoe near Orillia, Ontario, attracted 37 boats.

Cash prizes were given to participants with the best and worst poker hands. Donated by the participants who received them, those winnings were added to the total donation for the charity.

“I’m really pleased that we were able to raise $20,000 for this cause, which raises awareness about prostate cancer,” said Meghan Brousseau, the president of the nonprofit club, which raises funds charities in the various areas where it holds its events. “Although we emphasize that captains keep their cash prizes, these big-hearted boaters always donate their winnings to the charity.”

Last weekend’s PBCC event 37-boat event fleet included V-bottom sportboats, catamarans and center consoles.

Set for Sept. 15-17, the organization’s final run of the season will raise money for the Children’s Wish Foundation in Rice Lake near Peterborough, Ontario.

“It costs $10,000 to grant one wish, and my goal is to grant two wishes this year,” said Brousseau. “We’re very lucky this year in that we’re going to have a little boy from Children’s Wish and his family who will ride with event sponsor Dave Scotto and Team Gotta Go.”
