Photo Essay: 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run Street Party Small But Mighty

As it always does, quality reigned over quantity at last night’s 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run street party in Clayton, N.Y., in advance of today’s boat rides—courtesy of participants in the third annual event—for Make-A-Wish children and tomorrow’s main event. The nine boats on display from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. ranged from the new Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats Team Gotta Go IV SL 50X V-bottom to Gone Again, a 37-foot Talon built as a raceboat in 1994 (and later converted for pleasure use), to a new Mystic Powerboats C3800 sport catamaran.

“Last year we had five boats in the street party,” said Nolan Ferris, a member of the 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run organizing committee. “We had a great turnout and I think the local businesses, a month-and-a-half into the summer season and coming out of a long winter, loved it.”

Ferris said event participants began arriving on Monday and will continue to arrive today, and that helped boost street party attendance this year.

“Historically, Friday has been the big arrival day,” he said. “This year, Wednesday was big and Thursday was huge. And some of these guys are staying till next Thursday.

“Not only do we want to put on a great poker run in an awesome venue and for people to have a great boating vacation while they’re here, we also do some amazing things for charities and families,” he continued. “Enjoying time with friends and family and making days brighter for families in need is what we are all about.”
