Photo Essay: Miami Boat Show Poker Run Wave No. 1

With 55 registered boats in the fleet, it’s safe to say that Stu Jones of the Florida Powerboat Club is pleased with the turnout for his annual Miami Boat Show Poker Run to Key Largo following the seminal event on Virginia Key. And by not exhibiting at the event this year (instead he placed his Pompano Beach, Fla., poker-run producing outfit’s Powerboating In Paradise magazine in key displays around the show), Jones had more time to mingle and focus on the upcoming event.

Just three years ago, the Miami Boat Show Poker Run appeared to be on its deathbed. Now’s it back with two upscale lodging venues—the Autograph Collection Playa Largo Resort and the Hilton Curio Collection Bakers Cay Resort in Key Largo—and a Saturday fun run for those who are inclined. (Those who aren’t can either strike out on their or simply stay put.)

“One of the things I enjoy most about this event is seeing new boats straight from the show participating,” Jones said.

While there weren’t many of those in yesterday’s departure wave, there were plenty of other pretty high-performance catamarans, V-bottom sportboats and center consoles from the likes of Adrenaline Powerboats, Cigarette Racing Team, MTI, Mystic Powerboats, Nor-Tech and more. As he does every year, speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden found a perch on the Card Sound Bridge to capture them all.

Check out the slideshow above to enjoy more images from the first wave of the Florida Powerboat Club poker-run to Key Largo.

Boden is back on that bridge today. Look for more of his images from the 2020 Miami Boat Show Poker Run on speedonthewater.com tomorrow.
