Photo Essay: Oneida Lake Fall Chicken Wing Run

Without question, the Oneida Lake Fall Chicken Wing Run in Central New York has one of the most unusual names of any high-performance boating event in the country. The run takes its odd handle, of course, from the favorite fare at the annual event’s lunch stop, where this year an estimated 2,500 wings were inhaled by the owners of 150 go-fast boats and their guests last weekend.

Organized by Ron Forbus, who kicked off the run by playing the National Anthem Jimmy Hendrix-style on his electric guitar, the event ran for the sixth time last weekend under blue skies and an uncommonly high temperature of 85 degrees. Proceeds of the fundraising day on the water, which ended with a party at the Crazy Clam—the event’s primary sponsor—will go the Sylvan Beach Fire Department.

Next year’s Onidea Lake Chicken Wing Run is set for Sept. 21-22 and more sponsors are already lined up.
