A helicopter crash into the Fox River today during the ninth annual Four Horsemen Poker Run in Oshkosh, Wis., left everyone involved in the event stunned and saddened, not the least of whom was event photographer Pete Boden, who had exited the aircraft shortly before it reportedly took off again to refuel at a nearby airport, and then crashed into the waterway.

The recovery of aircraft and search for its pilot is ongoing at this point, according to local news reports. Neither the name of the pilot nor an official explanation of the crash have been released.

Prior to the accident, Boden captured an assortment of images of the event, which became somewhat fractured with the closure of the river. The joy captured in his photos present a stark counterpoint to today’s apparent tragedy.

To that end, we dedicate the images above to the helicopter pilot and his loved ones.
