With the Super Boat International World Championships ahead Nov. 8-15 in Key West, Fla., Chris Schoenbohm of Smart Marine Service in Orlando, Fla., is preparing to defend his 2014 Stock-Class world title. But that doesn’t mean work on his Phoenix 32 XCat project has stopped. In fact, Schoenbohm reportedly has made significant progress on the 32-foot catamaran, which is based on a Michael Peters’ 32-foot Maelstrom catamaran design and will be offered in race and pleasure versions.

“We’re in the final stages of building the plug, then the molds will be completed,” Schoenbohm said. “We’ll be building it using infusion and carbon-fiber and Kevlar materials.”

Schoenbohm said he expects the first new model to be completed between February and March 2016. Like his 32-foot Doug Wright Smart Marine Service/Patriot Vapor catamaran, the Phoenix 32 XCat will be equipped with his company’s “11/10 variable-speed bottom.”
