Powerboat Magazine Publication Suspended

According to “talking points” supplied to former Powerboat magazine editor Jason Johnson by Bonnier Corporation, publication of Powerboat magazine has been suspended.  The Winter Park, Fla., publisher acquired the magazine earlier this year.

“Here’s what I’ve been given in terms of information on what’s happening with Powerboat,” said Johnson. “’Publication of Powerboat has been suspended. Due to the continual decline and consolidation in market, the magazine has been placed on hiatus, effective immediately. The Jan/Feb edition of Powerboat has been produced and will be available on newsstands Jan. 3.’”

Johnson, whose contract with the magazine was terminated earlier this week, declined to comment further.

A phone call to Dean Turcol, the vice-president of corporate communications for Bonnier Corp., additionally confirmed that publication of the magazine had been halted. According to an email response from Turcol regarding Powerboat subscribers, “The current subscribers to Powerboat magazine will be transferred to our Boating publication.”
