Project: Outerlimits Updates SV 40

Delivered to its Michigan-based owner this week, an updated 2013 Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats SV 40 sportboat showcases the Bristol, R.I., custom boat-builder’s in-house restoration/renovation capabilities. The 40-footer, which is powered by Mercury Racing 700SCi engines with Stage III Whipple Superchargers kits, received a total makeover at the Outerlimits facility.

Outerlimits thoroughly modernized this six-year-old SV 40 sportboat (click image to enlarge).

“The current owner is the third owner of this boat and he wanted to personalize it and update its interior,” said Dan Kleitz, the company’s sales manager. “We ended up doing a new carbon-fiber dash and glovebox, adding a new carbon-fiber console and installing two Simrad GPS units, which also serve as VesselView displays, as well as a Garmin GPS. We installed new lighting billet switches and new carpet in the cockpit, which we redid in Alcantara material. And we replaced all the old cupholders and grab handles, as well as the windshield fasteners, with more modern versions.”

The Outerlimits crew members also worked on the boat’s exterior, corrected a few flaws in the paintwork and re-clear-coated its deck. Per the suggestion of the 40-footer’s owner, they even carried the boats exterior color scheme into the cockpit.

“That’s why we love working with our customers—they have great ideas,” Kleitz said. “We want our customers to know that we can handle all service and restoration jobs, from mild to wild.”

The boat reportedly tops out at 118 mph. “Being as the boating season is here, we also went through the engines, changed the engine and drive oil, and replaced the water pumps,” Kleitz added. “Then we took it for a sea trial and it ran really strong.”
