Qatar Will Field Third Boat In Key West
Qatar’s new 50-foot Mystic cat, Al Adaa’am 96, with twin 1,800-hp turbine engines, and its 42-foot, twin 750-hp piston-engine-powered Spirit of Qatar 20 Marine Technology, Inc. catamaran—both racing tomorrow in Super Boat International National Championships in Clearwater, Fla.—will be joined by a third Qatar team boat later this year. The latest arrival in Qatar’s offshore racing fleet,another 41-foot Victory cat will be powered by Mercury Racing 1350 engines and will compete in the Superboat Unlimited class at the SBI Key West Offshore World Championships in early November. Qatar automobile rally star Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah and veteran Union Internationale Class 1 racer Mateo Nicolini will team up in the 1350-powered 41-footer. Qatar team leader Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani, who will share the cockpit of the turbine-powered cat tomorrow with ace throttleman Steve Curtis, said the rigging of the boat with new Mercury Racing 1350s is underway.
“It’s now being set-up,” said Sheikh Hassan in a press release from the Qatar Marine Sports Federation. “I think Matteo and Nasser will be impressed when they get their hands on it.”
