‘Racing To Rebuild’ Is The Theme For Speed On The Water Key West Bash

As much as we enjoy throwing the annual Speed On The Water Key West Bash during the early November Race World Offshore-produced world championship powerboat races and Florida Powerboat Club poker run to the famed Florida City, the point is raising money for a worthy local charity. We firmly believe that donating to local charities is the most effective way to get money and services into the hands of community members who urgently need them.

That’s why all money raised during the party for the past five years—$81,000 in 2021— has been directed exclusively to Samuel’s House, a nonprofit organization that provides shelter women, children and intact families in a safe and sober setting.

And, of course, that will continue this year and beyond. We take our traditions seriously.

But we can do more for people in need beyond the city at the end of the road.

Right now, Fort Myers Beach, Fla., which was destroyed by Hurricane Ian a little more than a week ago and was supposed to host the final race of the American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series this weekend, desperately needs help. Local businesses and home were simply vaporized in the Category 4 storm. Many local residents now have nothing more than the clothes they were wearing when they evacuated.

So in addition to contributing to Samuel’s House, we’ve committed to working with the Fort Myers Beach Women’s Club and the Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation—both nonprofit organizations that have teamed up for their community—to raise money for their #WeAreFMB Resilient fund during this year’s Speed On The Water Key West Bash presented by CMR Construction and Roofing. And they are currently taking donations on the websites above if anyone is interested in giving back right away.

And we’re rebranding the November 10 celebration, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Sandbar Sports Grill on Greene Street with a new theme: Racing To Rebuild.

This year’s live auction, which includes three different raceboat and VIP viewing experiences in Key West, will raise money for both causes. Funded by CMR, commemorative Racing To Rebuild-themed T-shirts will be on sale outside the Sandbar during the party, as well as in the speedonthewater.com store in the near future. All proceeds from those sales will be donated to the #WeAreFMB Resilient fund.

Though Fort Myers Beach will never be the same, it can be rebuilt and maybe even come back better. But it’s not going to happen without a lot of outside help—and making the most of every penny donated.

“Your money will go directly into the hands of someone who lives in the 33931 zip code,” according to the Women’s Club of Fort Myers Beach website.

That’s music to our ears.

As is the 2022 Key West Bash: Racing To Rebuild, which is expected to be the biggest and best go-fast-boat bash of the year. You don’t want to miss it.
