Refreshed Miss GEICO to Debut at Miami Boat Show

After a successful showing in Key West, Fla., at the Super Boat International (SBI) Key West Offshore World Championships, the Miss GEICO Offshore Racing Team was finally content enough with the boat’s performance that it could turn its attention to the 42-foot catamaran’s appearance.

A freshly painted Miss GEICO is expected to be on display at the Miami International Boat Show next month.

In doing so, the race boat was completely de-rigged and its wrap was removed so it could be painted with the chartreuse color for which Miss GEICO is famous. The boat is currently at Spectre Offshore Performance where owner Jay Pilini and his crew are painting the cat and planning to finish it in time to put it on display at the Miami International Boat Show in February.

“We felt like we needed to concentrate more on the mechanical side of things and getting the boat’s setup just right to make sure it was running well before we did anything cosmetic,” said Gary Stray, the team manager and chief rigger. “We had it wrapped for a couple of seasons, and now that we feel like we’ve dialed it in, it’s time to paint the boat.”

Stray said the team is looking forward to the Miami show, followed by its first race of the season—the SBI opener in Charlotte Harbor, Fla. (April 11-14). Along with the SBI series, the Miss GEICO boat will compete at Smokin’ the Sound in Biloxi, Miss. (April 25-27) and at Lake Race on Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks (June 5-8).
