Rookie Moves in Key West, Part II: Yesterday’s Testing Will Be Tested Today

As soon as we finished testing our Maxed Out Offshore Racing Team boat yesterday the nerves set in—I guess that’s just part of the experience of running your first SBI Key West Worlds. The boat did well today, but I have to admit it was rougher out there than I expected. It should be better today, but they say it still stays rough in spots because thanks to the Outer Mole, which a concrete seawall.

What I noticed in that part of the course was that the seas had no real direction. It was more of a washing machine.

Had a great dinner with the team last night at the Raw Bar. After that, it was time to lay low and get ready for today our first race on the most famous course in offshore racing.

We are start No. 2 of today’s first race and there are five boats in our class. All of the boats are very similar in power and length, so I think it will be a great contest. Our boat ran great and we feel our set up is where it needs to be. But we’ll see—by the time you read this, we should be dicing it up with our competitors on the course.
