Rookie Moves in Key West, Part IV: Anticipation Meets Preparation for Race Day No. 2

maxedoutkwrace1

The start of day four in Key West came with a pleasant surprise finding out we got third in yesterday’s race. With Christie’s Photography Solutions spinning out and Two Cruel breaking out that put us on the podium. It was a great feeling because this is a race of attrition and with the weather looking rougher for Sunday’s race we are very excited.

We found the problem causing our water-running problem from the end of yesterday. The water pump housing had cracked but stayed in place because of the bolts holding the two parts together. Once we replaced the pump and made a few changes we had a very successful testing session. Again it was rougher than I expected but the boat ran awesome.

In fact, the whole the whole experience so far has been awesome! The fans in Key West are so interested in what we do that it amazes me when I talk to people about it. Remember, most of the fans here are from out of town but nonetheless they still show a lot of interest in the sport. We are one of the smallest boats here and yet we still get lots of questions and well wishes. It’s a humbling experience to say the least, because I am just a guy who likes to drive boats. When you look at all the hardware here or any race site, it’s always nice to see the little boats get some attention.

Now we are off to the Speed on The Water party and Smokin’ Tuna Saloon. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
