Scism Consulting With Abu Dhabi On New Class 1 Raceboats

Marine Technology, Inc., founder and owner Randy Scism and his team at the custom high-performance catamaran and V-bottom company will provide “technical cooperation” to the country of Abu Dhabi in developing and building its own Union Internationale Motonautique Class 1 offshore raceboats. According to a press release, representatives from the Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club recently visited the MTI facility Wentzville, Mo. The plan is for Abu Dhabi-built catamarans to compete on the Class 1 circuit in 2014.

“We are ready to provide all the necessary team work to provide the expertise for co-operation in this exciting project,” said Scism, a former Class 1 world champion with the Dubai-based Victory team, in the release. “We are proud to have been chosen to provide the technical support and we are sure that this will open the door for greater benefits for both parties.”

“We have many ambitious plans in order to make the emirate of Abu Dhabi the capital of marine sports racing,” said Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. “This will give us great benefits in the future.”

According to the release, the Class 1 raceboat project is just the beginning of boat building in Abu Dhabi. Leaders of the country plan to create their own “boating industry” that includes pleasure boats and utility boats.
