Second Time Another Charm For DCB M31 Owner

In 2010, DCB Performance Boats of El Cajon, Calif., introduced its M31 Widebody catamaran. Among the first few buyers was Sean Seawright or Yorba Linda, Calif., and he still owns the open-bow 31-footer powered by Ilmor Marine engines, as well as an Eliminator and a pontoon boat.

Now Seawright has two open-bow M31 cats in his stable. Last Friday, he took delivery of a brand-new 31-footer powered by recently reintroduced Mercury Racing 700 SCi engines and No. 6 drives.

“When there’s just a couple of us running around, we leave the bow area closed,” he said. “When we’re going out the with the family and the dogs, we open it up to let everyone in.

“It’s a beautiful, beautiful boat,” he continued. “Photos don’t do it justice. It’s a little heavier than my last one and it drives a little different. I just love it.”

Unlike most M31s delivered of late, Seawright’s cat is fully capped, meaning it has no rub rail. But that’s not the only feature that distinguishes it from its other 31-foot DCB counterparts.

“The open bow is different than the recent M31 walk-through open bow we delivered in August to Ryan Seitz,” said Jeff Johnston, the president of DCB. “It has a fully furnished under cuddy, then pops up as an open bow in the front section. The open-bow section has also been fabricated to allow the cut-out deck section to be re-attached and act as a closed deck when the additional seating in the front is not wanted or needed.”

The catamaran’s mostly Alcantara interior includes a custom-matched carpet kit with shaved diamonds in the fabric, all of which is color-coordinated with its Phase III gelcoat graphics package. The balsa-cored boat was built with the Vacuum Infused Resin process. Additional lamination ingredients include carbon fiber and Kevlar.

Seawright ordered the boat loaded with electronics including twin Mercury VesselView 9 monitors and a Garmin 922 GPS unit, two Garmin GMi20 units (one in each headrest for the driver and copilot bucket seats) a rearview camera and a six-person intercom system with VHF boat-to-boat communication dubbed the “DCB Channel.” Other cool amenities include DCB’s Interior Rigid LED lighting package (mood lighting, courtesy lighting, LED cupholders) and a Stage III stereo with a Fusion head unit, two JL Audio amplifiers, 10 JL Audio M6 midrange LED speakers and a pair of 13-inch JL Audio W3 subwoofers.

On the hardware front, the cat is equipped Teague Custom Marine sea strainers and water pick-ups and a billet foot shower, as well as a SeaDek boarding kit with the popular surfacing on the walkway between engine hatches, on the steps into cockpit and on the front bow entry way. To haul the boat from his Southern California home to Lake Havasu—his favorite aquatic playground—the owner ordered the M31 with a triple-axle trailer with two-tone black 18-inch FUEL rims, stainless steel fenders, a triangular drive guard and undercarriage LED lighting from Adrenaline Custom Trailers.

Said Seawright, “Once you drive a DCB, you never go back to anything else.”
