Sequence of the Week: Long Beach Sprint Nationals Wild Wreck

In spectacular fashion last Saturday, veteran driver Robby Devine got loose in the Tom Buckles-owned K-Boat entry, caught air and crashed at the ARP Long Beach Sprint Nationals presented by HotBoat.com. Taking place in Southern California’s historic Long Beach Marine Stadium, the event served as the American Power Boat Association (APBA) National Championships in SE, Super Stock, Pro Stock, Crackerbox, K Racing Runabout, Grand National, Comp Jet and GPS 95.

Devine was battling for the K-Boat class lead with Tony Scarlata when, according to Bob Brown, who took the pictures featured in the slideshow below as our first “Sequence of the Week,” Devine drove real deep into the single-pin turn and hit a couple of rollers that shot him skyward.

Fortunately Devine, who is from Corona, Calif., was cleanly tossed from the boat without suffering any serious injuries. He was released from the hospital Saturday evening.
