Shore Dreams Beats The Odds
As anyone who regularly reads my stuff knows, I have a lot of friends in the New Jersey high-performance powerboat community. Maybe it’s because I am often emotional, usually impatient and frequently hotheaded. Maybe it’s that I talk with my hands and love good food and drink. Or maybe it’s just because my name ends in a vowel.

But I have to admit that earlier this year I didn’t think my extended New Jersey family would be able to pull off their annual Shore Dreams for Kids event in Seaside Heights. Hurricane Sandy trashed much of the infrastructure needed for the event, such as the Seaside Heights Municipal Docks—not to mention a slew of waterside houses and boats in and around Barnegat Bay. Many of the Garden State folks who graciously donate money to Shore Dreams every year were cash-strapped this time around—rebuilding homes and replacing valuables has a way of emptying even the deepest pockets.
