While Skater Powerboats’ national sales manager Tony Cutsuries has called the Douglas, Mich., company’s new 438 catamaran “a 388 on steroids” in prior articles on speedonthwater.com, the official general specifications for the boat—particulary those of its sponson running surfaces—were kept under wraps until today. They are:

Length: 42′ 11” (12.95 meters)
Beam: 12′ 0″ (3.61 meters)
Height: 5′ 10″ (1.78 meters)
Weight (complete): 12,000 pounds (max.) (5,454 kilos)
Fuel Capacity (two tanks): 500 gallons (1,500 liters)
Tunnel Width: 72″ (1.68 meters)
Tunnel Height Front: 42″ (1.12 meters)
Tunnel Height Rear: 24″ (63.50 centimeters)
Sponson Deadrise: 12/24 degrees

Most notable among the 438’s specifications, said Cutsuries, is its variable sponson deadrise.

“The 388 has a 19-degree deadrise but it’s not a variable-pitch bottom,” he explained. “The 438 goes from 24 degrees to 12 degrees. It’ll be a better rough-water boat than the 388, plus it will have great acceleration and top end. It’s the best of both worlds.

“It’s a 388—all pumped up,” he added. “It’s 10 percent bigger all the way around.”
