Slideshow of the Week: Nor-Tech’s New 450 Sport Presented by South Florida Performance Boats

Ask Bob Crow of South Florida Performance Boats in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., about the new Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats 450 Sport Center Console model, and he’ll explain why he believes it is one of the most versatile offerings he’s ever seen. Not only does the large 45-foot-long, 12-foot-wide model have the interest of performance boaters looking to get into a bigger center console or transition out of their go-fast V-bottom or cat, according to Crow, the boat is also gaining traction among customers who might normally be looking at an express cruise as well as yacht owners seeking an unparalleled tender.

“It’s really an amazing boat—Nor-Tech has taken a performance center console and turned it into a full-featured model that is nudging the express cruiser market hard,” said Crow, a Nor-Tech dealer since 2012 who shared the images above and below from this week’s photo shoot with speedonthewater.com. “I took a client out this week and he couldn’t believe how great the boat handled and how well it turned—and I took a pretty hard turn at 60 mph. He realized right away this boat is something special. It’s not just a big cruising platform, even though it offers all of the things you’d want from an express cruiser—a full cabin, air conditioning, generator, tons of seating and more. It’s more exciting than that.”

Crow said he took delivery of Nor-Tech’s third 45-footer, the second to be powered by quad Mercury Racing Verado 400R engines, at last month’s Palm Beach Boat Show and has put more than 20 hours on it between testing and demo rides. The first 450 Sport CC, which Crow took delivery of at the 2016 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in November, was powered by five Verado 400R engines, while hull No. 2—the first with four 400-hp engines—was delivered to its mega yacht owner in Miami earlier this year.

So far Crow has had the latest 450 Sport CC, which has 23”-pitch Mercury Racing Revolution 4 XP propellers connected to the 400-hp engines, up to 75 mph. He said the previous one ran 80 mph in ideal conditions with different propellers and a light fuel load, and that the five-engine model topped out at 83 mph.

“The boat runs well with four or five engines, and its cruise speed of 45 to 50 mph with either four or five engines is remarkable,” Crow said. “I think we’ll sell more of the four-engine models because aesthetically the boat is more symmetrical and natural looking with quads. Plus with four engines, the boat runs faster than most people need or want to go. We do have orders for quints—most of those are guys with high-performance backgrounds looking to get the most speed out of their boat.”

While the performance of the 45-footer is the ultimate selling point, Crow added that the interior features, including the full-size cabin’s electronic glass windows—a first for Nor-Tech—that change from clear to opaque to prevent people from seeing inside, are a close second.

The slideshow above includes several detail images of the 45-foot center console.

“The 450 Sport is a very high-end build—between the storage, the upholstery, the accessories and more, this new one has a lot of nice options on it,” he said. “It also has an incredible amount of seating, which makes socializing on the boat much more enjoyable. Literally you can have six people in the bow hanging out and having a conversation, and six more people in the back having a different conversation. That can’t happen in a typical performance boat. Whether it’s a cat or a V-bottom, the seating configuration and volume doesn’t allow for that to happen.”

Crow added that anyone interested in the new 450 Sport or any other Nor-Tech models can call him at 954-232-6389 or email him at boats@sofloboats.com.
