Sneak Peeks From SMD: Present MTI, Future Nor-Tech

On a roll with beautiful paintjobs for Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats center consoles, Stephen Miles Design has yet another 450 Sport CC on tap for graphics application at its Owensboro, Ky., facility. The 45-footer will be the fifth Nor-Tech painted by the company’s namesake and crew.

Stephen Miles Design will soon have another 45-foot Nor-Tech center console in its paint booth.

“This one will be SMD‘s fourth 450 Sport and the third one that we have done through our friends at American Custom Marine,” said Miles. “Knobby (Michael Knoblock, the owner of the Kimball, Mich.,-based full-service Nor-Tech dealership) is keeping us busy.”

Miles also is in the process of painting his first MTI 390X sport catamaran, which is owned by well-known go-fast boat enthusiast  Johnny O’ Loughlin. Based in New York, the hands-on O’ Loughlin has owned several MTI models including a pair of color-matched 34- and 48-foot catamarans.

The paintjob on Johnny O’ Loughlin’s new MTI 390X catamaran, which will be powered by twin Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines, is almost complete.

“I’ve worked very closely with Johnny O from the jump,” said Miles. “I even met with him at MTI to help collaborate with him, Randy Scism and Wes Jones on the interior and upholstery.

“The 390X is going back to MTI for rigging at the end of the week,” he continued. “And we have an Outerlimits SL 52 that’s also almost ready to go back to Rhode Island for rigging.”
