Sobo to Lead Sales and Marketing for Deep Impact Custom Boats and Blackwater Boats

Following seven years with Black Thunder Powerboats and a remarkable 18 years with Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats, veteran performance boat salesman Terry Sobo is departing the North Fort Myers, Fla., company for the Deep Impact Custom Boats and Blackwater Boats brands.

Sobo, who with Nor-Tech owners and founders Trond Schou and Nils Johnsen led the company into the performance center console era starting in 2009 with the 390 Sport CC, is excited to now be running sales and marketing for Deep Impact and Blackwater.

“Although it was an emotional decision, I have been offered a chance to take the helm of a smaller organization that produces two separate brands and try to grow them into something more than what they currently represent in the market,” Sobo said. “My heart will always be with Nor-Tech, but this is an opportunity of a lifetime and I felt that I could not let it pass.”

Sobo, Fischer and company enjoyed the 2016 Leverick Bay Poker Run in the British Virgin Islands in Mark and Eileen Fischer's Nor-Tech 527. “Over the past 18 years, I’ve seen the lows and I’ve seen the highs, and right now the company is higher than it has ever been and it’s in great hands,” Sobo explained.

Fischer, the owner of OffleaseOnly and Boats Direct USA who purchased the Deep Impact assets in 2014, believes Sobo is going to be a perfect fit.

“As many people know, Terry and I have been friends for at least 15 years—I bought my first Nor-Tech back in 2003,” Fischer said. “But we’re not just making this move because we’re friends. This is a great opportunity for Terry to move forward in his career, and I think we found the perfect person to take the Blackwater and Deep Impact brands to the next level.”

According to Fischer, Sobo has his work cut out for him, especially with the Miami International Boat Show right around the corner.

“We are going to be debuting our all-new Blackwater 43 with quad Mercury Verado 350 engines in Miami,” Fischer said. “I think people are going to be very impressed with it as well as the Deep Impact 399 Sport we reintroduced last year. We welcome everyone to come see the boats and our latest addition—Terry Sobo—at the show.”
