St. Clair River Classic Gets Major Sponsor In The St. Clair Inn

Late last week, the St. Clair Inn, which is currently being revitalized, was announced as the title sponsor for this year’s 25th annual St. Clair River Classic, which takes place July 26-28 in St. Clair, Mich., and is the fourth of six races in the new American Power Boat Association Offshore Championship Series produced by the Offshore Powerboat Association and Powerboat P1.

According to a press release (and a press event, watch the video at right), this year’s race is expected to have the largest turnout of boats since the year 2000 as well as an increased international presence. St. Clair’s own Blue Water Offshore Racing Association has been instrumental in organizing the event and preparing for what’s shaping up to be the most important St. Clair River Classic yet.

“As president of the Blue Water Offshore Racing Association, it is my honor to once again help bring the St. Clair River Classic to its impressive 25th annual race,” said BWORA head Steve Brunner. “This year, 60-plus racers from around the world turn their sights on St. Clair in what’s shaping up to be our biggest roster yet.”

Azam Rangoonwala, CEO of Powerboat P1, and Ed Smith, president of OPA, both sent statements regarding the race.

“We believe that combining our new racing partnership with Blue Water Offshore Racing Association’s experience in race production in St. Clair will enhance this year’s River Classic as it celebrates its 25th anniversary,” Rangoonwala said.

Smith and the OPA organization have been associated with the event for many years and can’t wait to return later this month.

“The venue is comfortable, with everything close to the race village and the racecourse,” Smith said. “Blue Water and its amazing team of volunteers work like a well-oiled machine in managing the event—my hat is off to this great team.”
