Stephen Miles Design Painting Nor-Tech No. 3, More Coming

The combination of two high-performance marine industry companies—each at the top of its game—with complimentary skill sets tends to be a winner. Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats of Fort Myers, Fla., is on an extended roll with its exceptional center-console line. Stephen Miles Design based in Owensboro, Ky., is delivering some of the hottest go-fast boat paintjobs of the last 10 years. And thanks in large part to Nor-Tech dealers Midwest Boating Center in Kaiser, Mo., and American Custom Marine in Kimball, Mich., Miles and his team are in the process of painting their third Nor-Tech 450 sport center console.

Currently in the paint booth at Stephen Miles Design, this is the third Nor-Tech 450 Sport CC the famed graphics shop has handled.

“The first one I got through Randy Kent at Midwest Boating Center,” Miles said. “The second two—the third 450 I’m painting now—came through Mike Knoblock of American Custom Marine.”

Next up for Miles from Nor-Tech is another 450 and his first 390. Though Miles launched his career through painting V-bottoms and catamarans from Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats and continues to deliver stunning paintwork for the Bristol, R.I., company, he said he’s enjoying the challenge of designing and applying original graphics for Nor-Tech’s center consoles.

“The boats have similar lines so you work to accent them,” he said. “But other than that, the two paintjobs I’ve done on Nor-Techs and the one I’m working on have been completely different. In fact, the only similarities are the lines of the boats themselves.

“The people at Nor-Tech, especially Henrik Margård and Kevin Lane, have been very helpful,” he added. “We work together really well. And Mike at American Custom Marine has been awesome.”

Photographed before its outboard engine-cowlings were color-matched to the boat’s graphics, this was the second Nor-Tech 45-footer painted by Stephen Miles Design.
