Strong L.A. Show Propels Nordic Boats Forward

As the 57th annual Los Angeles Boat Show came to a close on Sunday evening, Thane Tiemer, general manager of Nordic Boats, left the convention center on his way to dinner with a huge smile on his face. That’s because Nordic—for the first time in quite a few years—had a successful show.

Powered by a Mercury OptiMax 300XS engine, Nordic's new 24 SX catamaran was a hit at the Los Angeles Boat Show.

Tiemer said the Lake Havasu City, Ariz., company sold its new 39V, a striking 39-foot V-bottom powered by twin Mercury Racing HP700SCi engines, and at least four other boats, including a 28 SS catamaran with an 825-horsepower engine from Teague Custom Marine and a 26 Deck Boat—the company’s newest model—with a Mercury Racing 565 engine.

“It was absolutely fantastic—the traffic at the show yesterday and today was the best we’ve seen in five or six years,” Tiemer said after the four-day show concluded on Sunday. “What seemed different about the show this year was that almost everybody there was serious. They came to the show for a reason.”

According to Tiemer, the 24 SX catamaran with a single Mercury OptiMax 300XS engine was Nordic’s biggest attention-getter throughout the weekend. Tiemer also shared some news that the company is wrapping up a 28 SS with twin OptiMax 300XS engines to display at next month’s Fred Hall Show in Long Beach, Calif. (March 6-10).

“All indicators are saying that this should be a pretty decent year,” Tiemer added. “We’re hoping we can write another half-dozen orders or so off of the interest we had in L.A. Then we have Fred Hall coming up next month, followed by the Lake Havasu Boat Show in April.”
