Sunsation 32 CCX Sales ‘On Fire,’ 39 CCX Grows To 41

With three new orders for 32 CCX center console models from Performance Boat Center in Osage Beach, Mo., and two more from Coty Marine—Sunsation’s new exclusive Northeast dealer in Toms River, N.J.—the center console and sportbuilder’s Joe Schaldenbrand couldn’t be more delighted with the boat’s “through-put” sales performance.

“Of the 10 we’ve built so far, all 10 have been delivered to customers,” said Schaldenbrand, who co-owns the company with his brother, Wayne, and Jared Morris. “That boat is just right—the size is right, the price is right. It’s on fire for us right now.

“When you introduce a successful new model, you always get a surge in sales,” he continued. “But it’s important to have through-put, meaning they’re not just filling dealer inventory but they’re being sold and delivered to customers. The 32 CCX has through-put.”

Since its introduction in 2015, the 32 CCX has been a winner for Sunsation.

Testing of the company’s first 32-footer powered by triple Mercury Racing Verado 400R engines, according to Wayne Schaldenbrand, is ongoing. With help from Mike Griffiths of Mercury Racing, the Sunsation team is dialing in the boat before they deliver it to the buyer. Schaldenbrand said they are still working with drive height and rotation, as well as propeller selection including five-blade Maximus wheels with a four-blade “Bravo profile” that includes a smaller diameter, less blade surface area and a shorter diffuser.

“We even put trim tabs on the boat just to see what they would do to it in terms of stability,” he said. “I’m still not satisfied with it.”

“It’s not how fast a boat goes, but how well it goes fast,” said Joe. “You have to work with aerodynamics as well as hydrodynamics with a center console. So we’re playing with how the air plows over the boat and so on.”

Originally slated to be a 39-footer, Sunsation’s largest addition to the CCX series, which is still in the early stages of development, has grown to 41 feet. Consultant Tres Martin, who has worked before with Sunsation, is creating a new bottom for the boat, while an outside design firm is working with Sunsation-supplied CAD renderings to create a final design before the hull and deck tools are cut by Vectorworks Marine in Titusville, Fla.
