Among the 20-plus Sunsation performance boats that will be “running around” during this weekend’s Emerald Coast Poker Run in the Fort Walton Beach, Fla., area will be three of the Algonac, Mich., builder’s 36-footers, according to company co-owner Joe Schaldenbrand. Given that 13 of the boats have been built—and another is production—the presence of three 36-footers in what is one of the best-known and attended poker runs in the country is significant, Schaldenbrand said. That’s one of the reasons he and his brother, Wayne, are headed to Destin today.

“We’re starting to see the 36s in the field, and we’re thrilled,” said Joe via mobile phone as he and his brother drove to catch their flight to Florida this morning. “There was one at the 1,000 Islands Poker Run last weekend, and it actually made a sale for us by being there. Someone on the docks came up to the owner and asked him about it.

“We have a lot of Sunsation presence in the Destin area thanks to our dealer down there, Mitch Kaplan,” he continued. “Of the 20 or so Sunsations that will be running around during the run, seven or eight will be in the run. We’ve already had eight or nine phone calls this morning from Sunsation owners asking us when we are going to land.”
