Sunsation Building Triple Verado 400R Outboard-Powered 32-Foot Center Console

The middle child in Sunsation’s center console line, the 32 CCX has been a hot seller since its introduction at the 2015 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show late last year. According to Joe Schaldenbrand, who co-owns the Algonac, Mich., sportboat and center console company with his brother, Wayne, the builder has orders for the more than a dozen of the 32-footers, including one powered by triple 400-hp Mercury Racing Verado outboard engines.

“That one should run in the low-90-mph range,” he said. “The most popular package for that model is twin Verado 350s—I’d say about 90 percent of them are being ordered with twin 350s—and with that package you can get 72 mph out of the boat.”

Schaldenbrand added that the company is still getting orders for and building 29- and 34-foot CCX models, and they’ll be bringing a 34-footer in addition to a 32-footer to display in Miami next month. However, Sunsation won’t be displaying at the new Miami International Boat Show venue on Virginia Key. The company will have both models in the water at the Yachts Miami Beach event (formerly the Miami Yacht and Brokerage Show), which runs concurrently with the Miami International Boat Show but is a completely separate entity run by Show Management rather than the National Marine Manufacturers Association, on Collins Avenue.

“I wasn’t sure about the Miami show this year,” Schaldenbrand said. “I wanted to go back and forth to the show by boat every day but found out that wasn’t going to be possible. So we decided to exhibit on Collins with the yachts.”

Schaldenbrand paused, then laughed. “Heck, our boats could be used as tenders for some of those boats,” he said.

The Sunsation 32 CCX and 34 CCX will be at dock 7A in slips 1128 and 1129.
